Tasting Note
Intense waves of plum and blackberry lead on the nose, layered with hints of anise and dark chocolate. The palate is richly textured with a multitude of plush yet powerful dark fruit layers. Deep, pure-fruited and commanding, it also displays baking spice and liquorice, finishing with integrated, fine grippy tannins. Seductive in its youth, this wine is structured to evolve beautifully with time.
Awards & Accolades
Barossa Super 100 Classification 2025
A celebration of exceptional wines that define quality, collectability, and craftsmanship.
Viticulture & Winemaking
Dry conditions for the second year in a row presented challenges, with yields again significantly down. February and March were cooler than average, resulting in a long and even ripening period. The resulting wines show great purity and depth.
Fruit was sourced from old vineyards in the Krondorf (Stoll) and Ebenezer (Hoffmann) sub-regions of the Barossa Valley, and the Moculta (Fechner) and Mt McKenzie (Knight/Severin) sub-regions in Eden Valley – 53% Barossa Valley and 47% Eden Valley.
Parcels were fermented separately in small stainless-steel fermenters, some with submerged caps. Due to minuscule yields, skin contact was shortened to around 7 days to manage tannins. After classification, the wine was matured for 18 months in French oak hogsheads (51% new, the balance seasoned).
Cellaring
While seductive in its primary fruited youth, the 2020 Eligo will benefit from at least five years of cellaring and should age gracefully for over fifteen years.
